MEET TEAM AHMAD

Dr Ahmad’s Team

Dr. Christopher Ahmad is one of the nation’s premier Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeons, who practices at Columbia University Medical Center. He is the Head Team Physician for the New York Yankees, New York City Football Club (NYCFC), and Rockland Boulders. Additionally, he takes care of numerous college and high school athletes. Not only does Dr. Ahmad take care of professional and highly-competitive athletes, he takes care of athletes of all ages and skill levels. He and his staff, known as Team Ahmad, are committed to providing the highest quality of orthopedic care and injury prevention education to help their patients return to the field, and life, as quickly and as safely as possible.

Dr. Ahmad and his team of experts are leaders in Sports Medicine and treat every patient that walks through their door as if they were a professional athlete. Dr. Ahmad and his staff are known for their impeccable bedside manner, smiling faces, and professionalism. Frank Alexander, MS, ATC

Physician Extender, head Athletic Trainer, & Tommy John Coach

Frank Alexander, MS, ATC serves as our athletic trainer and physician extender. Frank joined Team Ahmad in the summer of 2015 already having a well-established background in Sports Medicine. He is responsible for history taking, evaluation of throwing athletes, patient education, and post-operative care and instruction, such as removing sutures and seeing patients in the recovery room. Frank earned his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Dominican College and a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from AT Still University. Prior to joining Dr. Ahmad’s team, he worked as an athletic trainer at the high school and collegiate levels as well as with Major League baseball players and Olympians. An athlete himself, Frank played baseball and football in high school and continued his baseball career in college. Once he finished his competitive career and knowing he wanted to stay around sports, athletic training and sports medicine held the key to that door. Frank is an expert in patient education for all our patients and can answer any and all questions you may have at any stage of your care, whether it is non-operative or operative. A native New Yorker, Frank lives in Rockland County with his wife Kelly and their dog, Louie. Frank is Team Ahmad's resident Tommy John Coach, an established expert in his field and the first of his kind in the United States baseball sports medicine landscape. Frank believes every athlete that undergoes Tommy John Surgery deserves to have their very own personal Tommy John Coach.

Fiona Nugent, RN, FNP, BC

Nurse Practitioner

Fiona Nugent is a licensed Registered Nurse and Board Certified Nurse Practitioner. Fiona serves as Dr. Christopher Ahmad’s Nurse Practitioner. The two work closely together to specialize in elbow, shoulder, and sport-related injuries. Fiona earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Molecular Neuroscience from Binghamton University in 2013. At Binghamton, she competed at the Division I level in track and field, specializing in the pole vault and middle distances. She then continued her studies at Columbia University, where she obtained her nursing degree in 2014 and went on receive a Master’s of Science degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2015. Fiona holds a Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine from Duke University, and is nationally certified as a FNP with American Nurse Credentialing Center. Fiona began her career as a Registered Nurse while working at Montefiore Medical Center from 2015-2016. She discovered her passion for orthopedics while completing her clinical rotation for her degree at Columbia Orthopedics with Team Ahmad. Additionally, Fiona worked as Assistant Track and Field Coach at The Ursuline School and Iona Preparatory from 2014-2016. Fiona currently resides in Westchester and enjoys competing in track and field and triathlons in her free time. Due to her active lifestyle, she understands the importance of getting back to activities that bring joy to her patients’ lives.
